Driest December month for Switzerland

For Switzerland the winter season started dramatic: since the half of November there was no fresh snow at all. The result of this were completely green landscapes that looked like the spring season.

In the whole Alps the situation was bad. Also in Austria and the France Alps there was a limited amount of snow. However, the situation in Switzerland was especially dramatic. Some ski resorts even had to close their transportation.

The start in November was hopefull: in the second week the temperatures were freezing and all the mountain areas could welcome almost one meter of fresh snow. At this moment nobody realised that this was the last snow of the year.

It is getting more usual that during the Christmas period the snow conditions are relatively bad. Also during the years 2014 and 2015 there didn't fall a lot of snow. These new trends will have a significant impact on tourism and it will give the climate debate renewed energy.
