Winter 2016 / 2017: a difficult season

The winter season of 2016 / 2017 was a difficult season for the Swiss ski areas. After a hopefull start in November the rest of the season can be seen as relatively warm and windy.

Already some ski areas closed their operations (Berner Zeitung). Other areas are hoping on a good result during Easter. This winter season can be seen as the third worst winter. The months Januar and Februar were much better than December, but still the weather was complicated and windy.

This winter season was clearly dominated by the 'Fohn' including warm temperatures high up in the mountains and strong wind storms. Sometimes fresh fallen snow was gone the next day by this wind. 

At this moment the amount of snow is far beneath average. This can be a complication for the Eater weekend. There is a lot of sun and the temperatures are again relatively high.
